The imminent development by the NFL of an international package on Sunday morning in its own right had thought that Netflix, given its global footprint, would be interested. But Netflix thinks larger than the slate in lower and smaller profile.
Much larger.
Stream content director Bela Bajaria told Matt Belloni Puck (via John Ourand de Puck) That the company is interested in submitting Sunday afternoon games of the NFL.
Sunday afternoon games are currently belonging to CBS and Fox. Fox acquired the CBS NFC package in 1994, and CBS seized the NBC AFC package in 1998.
The current broadcasting agreements take place until 2033. The League has the right to disconnect the agreements four years earlier, and it will probably do so.
Therefore, a major reshuffle could happen, Netflix becoming a very major player in the landscape of the dissemination of the NFL. And if Netflix is in it, one of the current partners will be absent. Or, at best, relegated to Sunday morning.
