Raptors give Brandon Ingram an extension of $ 120 million, but do they have a plan?

Directly on the heels of Trading against Brandon Ingram Before the NBA trade deadline on February 6, the Raptors of Toronto extended the wing contract with 8 inch 8 inch. The new agreement is worth $ 120 million Over the next three seasons, which means that Ingram will be on average $ 40 million per season, the last year being a player option.

While an extension was always logical, since Toronto abandoned the assets to obtain it, the amount here seems aggressive. There is a reason why Ingram was available to start, and a large part of this is his story of being a 3 -point reliever shooter, and more of a mid -range assassin, who, in the NBA of Today is not necessarily what teams need.

While Agram has increased its 3 -point price this season, its free throw rate has almost been reduced by half, due to its continuous dependence on mid -range shooting. Overall, 38.4% of its offense is made up of attempts between 10 feet and the 3 -point line, with its shooting rate in role at only 11.7% of its offense.

This does not mean that Agram is a bad player. In fact, it is quite powerful in several areas. But he continues to be his worst enemy, largely due to his shooting profile, which leaves a lot to be desired, especially when you consider his ball handling capacity for his size and his position is much higher than average .

Essentially, Ingram is not someone who draws the best party from his talent, and that makes him a strange adjustment to a team that already has two attackers in place (Scottie Barnes and RJ Barrett), none of whom A long range without seaming shooter. Availability was also a problem for Ingram which only played in 18 of the 53 Pelicans games this season due to an ankle injury. He had a hard time staying on the field throughout his nine-year career, eclipping 70 games in a season only once and on average 57 games during the seven seasons before it.

With the follow -up decision to extend it to a contract that seems unnecessarily rich, you must wonder what is the Toronto plan here.

If the franchise considers Ingram as a real long -term part – and its contract extension seems to be a reflection of the way the raptors see it – it is problematic in the future.

If, instead, the Raptors extended it in the hope of rehabilitating its value in summer, then realizing their list during the offseason by using it as a commercial chip, it would make sense.

However, how many teams are actively interested in being in the Brandon Ingram sector?

The Pelicans spent months trying to unload it, with little interest generated by the external teams during this period. With Ingram now on a substantial affair, and in control of its own future via its player option, can we even assume that raptors will have this business partners?

Ingram, more than probably, does not want to radically modify his game. The Pelicans have tried for years to make him more effective, but the 27 -year -old never seemed ready to commit to making a real change.

This contract could become a major obstacle for Toronto in the future, especially if Ingram is a bad adjustment alongside Barnes, which, in many ways, is a younger version of it, although to come defensively defensively .

Hell, you can make an argument according to which Barrett can be added to this pot, with Toronto now in possession of three wings which are beautiful murder of play with the ball in high volume and roamal trees out of ball.

The term “obstructed painting” could be mentioned a little about Raptors programs for the rest of the season.

Of course, raptors could consider keeping Ingram and leaving Barrett instead. It would help to solve something, as long as the return they get helps their floor spacing.

Even thus, Toronto will have to build his list carefully via Barnes, and not Ingram, which makes the acquisition, and now extension, strange. Historically, Ingram has proven to be difficult to integrate as an individual plug-and-play. Instead, the Lakers and the Pelicans had to fold the players around his game.

Since Toronto already does it with Barnes, adding another player to fold the players seems to be a lot of additional work, the result is probably never worth the pressure.
