It was an eventful offseason for the Yankees.
After Juan Soto chosen to sign with the dishes, the Yankees pivoted to add Max Fried, Devin Williams, Cody Bellinger And others to strengthen a list of caliber of the already global series.
But while the bombers become ready to start training in the spring, there are still a lot of question points surrounding the team.
Here are five scenarios to look at while the Yanks enter spring training and go to the opening day …
Who will win the third basic battle?
Although the Yankees made impressive movements to improve the list, the only hole they did not commit was in the inner field.
With the departure of Gleyber TorresYanks must fill the second or third base. GM Brian Cashman clearly indicated that he would prefer Jazz Chisholm Jr. To play second – although his third third experience last season makes the list more flexible – it is likely that the club will seek to find an internal response for the hot area.
Cashman and manager Aaron Boone Have some players in mind to fight for the spot. Veteran DJ Lemahieu will face Oswaldo Cabrera, Oswald Peraza And even Vivas Jorbit this spring.
Lemahieu and Cabrera will have the inner track, both having years of experience in the big league to their credit, but perhaps the old best hope Peraza will find its way this year where the Breakout star of Spring Vivas will do a big not.
This is the largest position battle of the team and which could influence the organization to seek an external response if none of these options works.
Jasson Dominguez: Left-wing temple every day
Dominguez will play a big role this season, so how he will do it on the plate will be crucial. But even more important is the way he manages the left field.
The Yankees have already confirmed that Dominguez will be their departure left defender – having Aaron judge Play right and Bellinger Man Center. However, Dominguez struggled on the left last season.
In 13 games (12 departures) on the left last year, Dominguez made a mistake and was a -2 moreover above average. He was also significantly uncomfortable with his readings and his routes. This spring will test the skills of Dominguez in the left field. Can he refine them so that he does not become a prejudice there?
This helps that an old voltiper winning gold gloves (Bellinger) be in the center and, hopefully, can teach young people or two to young people this spring.
Austin Wells In the second season
Last spring, Wells fought for a place on the list of the opening day. And although he won it, he started the year as Jose TrevinoBackup. Once Trevino fell with an injury, Wells took the opportunity to cement himself as a departure receiver in 2024 and move forward.
The Yankees moved Trevino during the offseason, so Wells should be the departure receiver on the day of the opening. With a full year to his credit and go to spring training without the pressure of fighting for a place, how will Wells react?
He used last spring to improve his defense to the point where even Yankees Brass were surprised, but now he must understand him offensively. This spring will be hopeful, the beginning of this.
See new faces playing in thin stripes
As mentioned above, the Yankees will have new faces that will join the team this spring. We will wait to see Fried and Williams do their thing in the rotation and the enclosure of the lifts, respectively, but what are you saying Paul Goldschmidt And Bellinger?
Bellinger took a step back last year after bouncing 2023, reducing only .266 / .325 / .426 with 18 circuits and 78 points produced. The Yanks hope that he can rediscover his production two years ago, and it starts this spring.
As for Goldschmidt, the NL 2022 MVP has just seized consecutive seasons where it saw its offensive production decline. After reaching more than 30 home circuits on the previous four full seasons, he has reached less than 26 each of the last two years. Last season especially saw its production decrease at low career. His stick to the stick (.245), OPP (.302), OPS (.716) and Walks (47) were all career lows, while his 173 stick withdrawals were the most he has since 2018.
The Yankees hope that there is something in the reservoir for the only season they have embarked on him, but they will also need his defense of the Golden Glove to anchor an inner field which could most certainly to use.
What perspective will break out?
Each spring, there is always at least a prospect who stands out and becomes a familiar name for fans and organization.
Famously, Anthony Volpe broke out in 2023 to jump Triple-A and take the starting work. Last year, Wells and Vivas showed something or two. Who will be this player this year?
Spencer JonesProspect No. 2 of the Yankees, will return to camp this year after having lived it for the first time last spring. He is part of a group of perspectives that were not guests to Roster who also include George Lombard Jr., Roderick Arias And Chase Hampton.
Lombard and Arias will see their first big leagues camp this year, while Hampton will be in his second.
