Some teams are struggling at the start of a season while they are looking for ways to reorganize their teams from the previous year. But the Grigers Gridders of Hutchinson Tigers were able to recharge and continue their domination during the Conference of the County of Wright.
After a big score in the first week, the Tigers (2-0) followed suit with another overwhelming victory, this time on Mound Westonka (1-1) 49-7.
“I thought that this evening, we played a better team that we played last week,” said Hutchinson Andy Rostberg coach. “Mound has athletes, defensively and offensively. Our defense, halfway through the match, had abandoned about 30 meters of offensive. Offensively, we had 10 for 11 launch this evening. We worked on this and did a good job.
“Our backs worked hard, but there were no big gaping holes. We must become a little more physical offensively. “”
The match was essentially finished at halftime while Hutch’s offensive imposed his will with the touches on the six possessions in the first half.
Jayden Fleck struck the first for a dive with a mass that crowned a disc of 66 yards, then Robbie Grimsley hit a score on the following five yards to take a 14-0 lead. Grimsley added another hit at the beginning of the second quarter, giving Tigers a comfortable advance of 21-0.
The defense set up the following score for the tigers after the interception return of Keegan Macemon of 36 yards led to the Touchk Touchk race with two yards.
Hutch had not finished, however, when the quarter-Arrière Marcus Hahn met Riley Steenhoek on a pass of a touchdown to the third and the line of a yard line, then Grimsley added another touched of five yards For his third of the match.
The tigers held a 42-0 advance at halftime
“They were hard,” said Grimsley. “Their seconds have filled gaps, but we picked them up. The whole line has blocked all day. Our defense played hard and we did not allow them too many meters per game. ”
Although the racing game worked very well for tigers, they also found a lot of success in the air.
Hahn was almost perfect because he finished 10 of his 11 passes in the night, accumulating 168 yards in just half. It was perfect on the seven additional attempts.
Mound-Westonka could not take a break in the first half while Hutch’s defense also did his job. The tigers forced four three and outings, an interception, allowed only one first and gave only 36 yards.
With a big half-time advance, the Tigers were able to rest the starters, but more importantly, give the players of the benches a possibility of action.
“We love it,” said Rostberg. “The last two weeks, each child on the short list here obtains a lot of playing time. They have played the second half of the two games. It helps if someone is injured and it helps for next year. They come to train all week knowing that they could enter the game. ”
One of those players who had the chance to prove itself was the second ball in the second year Isaiah Nelson. He installed 100 meters on the ground in the second half, including a seventy yards race. He did not score on this game, but showed his jets once again on a score of 14 yards in the third quarter.
The White Hawks obtained a moral victory with a touch of six yards with only a minute in the match, but that did not matter. With consecutive eruptions, it could be easy for players to become too confident. But the tigers are used to it and seem to maintain a level head.
“We know it will not always be like that,” said Grimsley. “We know that when we arrive at the playoffs, there will be more difficult teams. We play a game at a time and we prepare as if it was the state championship. We need to improve all aspects of the game every week, otherwise we will not continue to win matches. »»
With two victories to their credit, the Tigers are looking forward to playing the last team of the Wright County Conference for having beaten them. You have to go back almost four years, but Lake Glencoe-Silver was right for Hutch in it.
Even if the Tigers have had GSL’s number in recent years, they have not been lightly traveling to the Stevens seminar field.
“It’s an Hutch-Glencoe game,” said Rostberg. “You can throw the records by the window.” There will be a large house there with a lot of fans. They will be ready for us and we will be ready for them.
