Scottsdale, Arizona – It doesn’t seem so long since Justin Thoms and Scottie Scheffler were the young guns on tour. They had their moments of PGA Tour a few years, but they are about the same age. Thomas is 31 years old, Scheffler is 28 years old.
There are two of the old ones on tour. That said, could we see a change of guard in a way?
At 2025 WM Phoenix OpenThomas plays his first two laps with his former Alabama Golfer Nick Dunlap, 21, and Luke Clanton, 21, who still plays the university golf course in Florida State.
“It’s crazy, guy,” he said after his round on Thursday, adding that he never played on tour with two golfers 10 years younger than him. He then joked: “It’s wild. I definitely had a small babysitting there.”
Scheffler has a good relationship with Clanton, who made eight of the 10 cuts with four top 10 of the PGA Tour, like an amateur. Clanton called Scheffler one of his models.
“First of all, I saw Luke yesterday and I was going to ask him what his status was in terms of obtaining his card because I have the impression of seeing him play so much tournaments that I did not know If he was still in college or not, then asked him yesterday “Are you still at school?”, And he is like “Well, yeah”.
Thomas plays the WM Phoenix Open For the 11th time. It was his 12th year on the PGA Tour, having become pro in 2013. He won 15 victories, including two majors. Scheffler became a pro in 2018 and won 13 victories, all since his first victory in the Phoenix 2022 Open.
