Durham, NH (AP) – Sami Pissis collected 27 points and Anthony McComb III struck a 3 -point pointer with 8.3 seconds to play in the 79-78 Hampshire victory against UMBC on Thursday evening.
Pisss have missed a 3 -point shooting from the left corner, but McComb hunted the offensive rebound in the opposite corner and hit the shot of the green light. REGIMANTAS CIUNYS missed a potential winning sweater in the buzzer.
The pisss fired 7 out of 21 on the ground, including 2 for 13 from the 3-point beach, and were 11 for 14 of the line for the Wildcats (5-19, 3-6 America East Conference). Khalil Badru scored 21 points and added five rebounds. MCCOMB went 7 out of 16 on the field (3 for 3 of the 3 -point beach) to finish with 18 points.
Ace Valentine made two free throws which gave the UMBC an advance of 75-64 with four minutes to play, but the Wildcats closed the match on a sequence of 15-3.
The Retrievers (11-13, 3-6) were led by Marcus Banks, who finished with 30 points. Ciunys added 14 points for the UMBC. Marlon Short finished with nine points and three interceptions.
