Brett Crawford and Ian Longmore cool off after a tough day
The Lyall Cooper fundraising golf day, held on Friday in glorious sunshine at the picturesque Atlantic Beach Links Golf Estate at Melkbosstrand on the West Coast of Cape Town, was another fine example of the racing community coming together united to support a colleague in need.
Popular 4Racing TV presenter Lyall Cooper was diagnosed with cancer in June and discovered, like so many before him, that even with arrangements and planning, serious illness can be a debilitating financial burden that many do not recover.

The Golf Day fundraiser was organized by Joanne Knowles, wife of Cape Town presenter Grant Knowles, and proved a great success, raising over R32 000, from a small group of quality golfers fighting for glory in the name of a great cause.
Long-time Cape Town owner Paul Barrett’s four-ball worked its way into first place, followed by Grant Knowles’ four-ball, Brett Crawford’s four-ball, retired champion jockey Glen’s four-ball Hatt completing an illustrious quartet.

Joanne Knowles of Equine Marketing Solutions thanked sponsors and participants for their “huge support”.
The honors list included Gaynor Rupert, Golfers Club, Garth Rowe, Brett & James of Crawford Racing, World Sports Betting, Bruce & Jo Gardner, Rainbow Beach Trading, TAB and Central Route Trading.
Lyall’s family and his fiancée, Charlene Basilio, face tough times with mounting medical bills.
However, they will have gained great strength from the fact that horse racing is mobilizing in these difficult times.

Nico Kritsiotis also facilitated the creation of a medical assistance fund with the help of Rowan Furman and his team of lawyers.
