Ohio State Buckeyes: 6 things to know on 2025

January 30 – Columbus – Ohio State Football won the 2024 national championship.

Now what?

The next goal of coach of the coach Ryan Day for the Buckeyes will be to do something that none of his predecessors has: to win two in a row.

It will certainly not be easy for several reasons, but the biggest is attrition.

Unlike the last two times that Ohio State has won everything (2002 and ’14), the majority of the starting program will not be back next fall.

Day will also have at least one new assistant coach after the departure of Jim Knowles.

Here is a more in -depth examination of what buckeyes go around 2025:

1. They will have to replace a majority of beginners.

In attack, Buckeyes will have two new starting plates, a new tight end n ° 1, a new ball carrier n ° 1, a new quarter-arre and a new starting receiver.

In defense, seven starters have graduated, including the four line editors, two security, half a corner and an assistant, but there are experienced players who have obtained a key time as a return reserves of both sides of the ball.

2. Some big names come back.

The Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate receptors will be the headliners in attack.

Tate may be the N ° 1 receiver in just about any other Big Ten school, but Smith is likely to be considered the best receiver in the country after a fabulous first year season during which he captured 76 passes for 1,315 yards and 15 affected.

On the other side of the ball, Caleb Downs security will be a favorite for the national honors of defensive player of the year after having served as a ultimate gum on this side of the ball last season.

He will be joined by the second Sonny Styles, whose athletics also makes him a versatile weapon, and the Davison Igbinosun corner half, who turned out to be a difficult match when he can avoid penalties.

3. The lines will again be questioning points.

Buckeyes brings back interior lines Tegra Tshabola, Carson Hinzman, Austin Siereveld and Luke Montgomery on the offensive line.

Tshabola was the starting right guard almost all season while Hinzman intervened in the center in the second half.

Siereveld began seven games, and Montgomery has played largely in the playoffs, so there is a lot of experience, but none of the returnees is natural plated.

This means that coach Justin Frye may have to be creative in the way he trained a new starting training.

4. What about coaches staff?

Again, Frye may not be there to shape the next offensive line of Ohio State.

He was the only coach whose contract expired after the 2024 season, and the Chicago Tribune reported that he had interviewed the Chicago Bears for their post as offensive coach this week.

The Ohio State will certainly have a new defensive coordinator after Knowles jumped the ship for Penn State, and some reports have linked the attacking coordinator Chip Kelly to potential NFL jobs.

Having Knowles and Kelly in place to direct their Freed Day units to be more coach CEO, so having to replace both in an offseason would be significant.

5. Many talents are waiting in the wings.

Since he took over for Urban Meyer in 2019, Day has maintained the talent in Columbus.

The real reconstruction seasons are rare for Ohio State, and it seems that this will continue to be the case.

Julian Sayin, a five-year-old first year student last year, is considered the obvious heir to Will Howard in the quarter, but Junior Lincoln Kienholz could have something to say about this spring.

James Peoples has proven promising in limited chances of running, and CJ Donaldson is transferred from Virginie-Western to offer another option.

The Ohio State also added Ethan Onianwa plated from Rice and Phillip Daniels from Minnesota via the transfer portal with Max Klare, which was a tight productive piece in Purdue.

In defense, Jermaine Mathews Jr. flashed at the corner, where the graduate of Springfield Aaron Scott Jr. could also be ready to win a regular role next season.

The graduate of Lakota West Malik Hartford and Jaylen McClain should compete for a safe place, while Caden Curry, Kenyatta Jackson Jr. and Kayden McDonald put solid shots on the film last season on the defensive front.

CJ Hicks, an alternating gradue in its senior season, is also a joker for defense.

He could not win a starting place to the secondary last season, but could be a candidate to go to the defensive. Its potential role could change according to which becomes the new defensive coordinator.

6. The calendar has nothing to sneeze.

The Ohio State opens the 2025 home campaign against Texas, the team that the Buckeyes beat in the CFP semi-finals and the potential pre-season n ° 1 with Arch Manning amount to the starting quarter-rear.

Another national semi-finalist, Penn State, comes to town in November, and Ohio State will conclude the regular season with a trip to Michigan, where Buckeyes will try to end a sequence of four consecutive defeats in the match.

They also have trips to Washington, Illinois and Wisconsin that could be delicate.
