Jannik sinner takes Ben Shelton in the Australian Open semi-finals as the world number 1 looks to defend his title.

Sinner is looking to add a third Grand Slam to his collection, having won last year in Melbourne and again in New York at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old Italian had looked impressive in the previous round, outclassing Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals, but he faces a challenge in the person of the American Shelton, 22, whose serve is a giant weapon.

The winner will face either Novak Djokovic or Alexander Zverev in Sunday’s final.

Here’s everything you need to know.

When is Jannik Sinner vs. Ben Shelton?

The match takes place on Friday January 24 and is expected to be the first of two semi-finals at the Rod Laver Arena, with a likely start time of around 7:00 GMT.

What happened in the semi-final?

Sinner brushed aside her concerns about her health by brutally destroying her home’s hope Alex De Minaur in the quarter-finals.

The two-time defending champion was in great difficulty in his previous round against Holger Runetaking a long medical break and visibly shaking, and later admitted he was not feeling well.

Hot conditions also played a role and, more than 48 hours later and with temperatures having dropped considerably, Sinner returned to his best in a 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Meanwhile, Shelton fought to a victory in four sets against Lorenzo Sonego to reach his second Grand Slam semi-final.

The large portion American made her breakthrough at the Australian Open two years ago by advancing to the quarterfinals on her debut before improving her score at the US Open.

The draw at Melbourne Park opened up for the 22-year-old and he took full advantage, with his latest triumph a 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(4) win over the seeded. Italian Sonego.

How to watch the Australian Open

In the United Kingdom, the Australian Open will be broadcast live on Eurosport. Subscribers can also follow the action online on the Eurosport website or with the discovery+ application.

The tournament runs daily from midnight UK time on the outdoor courts and 1am on the exhibition courts, while night sessions will start at 8am.
