Knicks center Cities of Karl-Anthony missed Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers due to a sprained thumb, but the big man has something more to deal with.
Sources confirm to SNY’s Ian Begley that Towns has a bone chip in his thumb, but that’s not why he was ruled out of Wednesday’s game. Towns is expected to be back on the field once the sprained thumb heals and is considered day-to-day.
Cities injured his thumb in Monday’s loss to the Detroit Pistons after slamming his hand on the backboard during a first-half drive to the basket.
In his first season with the Knicks, Towns became the team’s most complete player. Through 38 games this season, Towns is second on the team averaging 25.4 points on 55 percent shooting, while leading the team with 13.9 rebounds and third with 3.3 assists per game.
On Wednesday, Towns also leads the Knicks with 44.9 percent three-point shooting.
After their match against Philadelphia, the Knicks will play two games over the next five days. First, they will host Towns’ former team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, on Friday before hosting the Atlanta Hawks for a matinee tipoff on Monday.
The Knicks (26-15) retain the third seed in the Eastern Conference.
