The 2025 WNBA free agency period is already busy.

On January 11, teams make qualifying offers to players and give others a basic designation. On January 21, teams begin negotiating with free agents and deals are officially signed on February 1.

The early parts of free agency were largely status quo until Dallas Wings forward Satou Sabally revealed she had played her final game with Dallas. The news sent shockwaves around the world, changing the free agency landscape and raising questions about possibilities for his next destination.

As rumors turn to confirmations, here are the WNBA’s biggest free agency moves so far:

Satou Sabally, Dallas Wings

Background: Satou Sabally and the Dallas Wings understand his time in Dallas is over. THE both parties will work together to find Sabally a new home and help the Wings recover some value thanks to the departure of their franchisee.

Kelsey Plum, Las Vegas Ace

Background: The Las Vegas Aces roster will undergo critical changes after failing to win another championship. The mastermind behind much of Las Vegas’ sensational run of consecutive titles (general manager Natalie Williams) is out.

With his departure, many key pieces, including Kelsey Plum, may not stay. It’s unclear if Plum played her final matches in Las Vegas, but regardless, the Aces eliminated her. If it works out, they’ll likely look to do a sign-and-trade.

Breanna Stewart, Liberty of New York

Background: Breanna Stewart just won a championship with the New York Liberty. She’s not going anywhere. It would be ridiculous for her to move on. Stewie also previously mentioned that she would sign one year deals for the foreseeable future until the new ABC is in place.

Gabby Williams, Seattle Storm

Background: Here’s a move we didn’t see coming: Gabby Williams (potentially) remains in the W with Seattle. By Kevin Pelton and Alexa Philippou from ESPNSeattle used the primary designation on Williams.

This move is notable, considering she reportedly mentioned in conversation with teams last year (before signing with the Storm) that she didn’t want to be cut. Additionally, the use of a primary designation on Williams makes the Jewell Loyd Trade discussions that are all the more intriguing.

Dana Evans, Chicago Sky

Background: In full disclosure, seeing Dana Evans stay in Chicago would be stunning. Evans found herself on the bench as the season progressed due to up-and-down production and a seeming lack of on-court chemistry with Sky’s bigs.

Perhaps new head coach Tyler Marsh can resolve Evans’ issues with the team, but she should be expected to wear a new jersey next season.
