THE Texas football the secondary has one of its pillars returning for 2025.
Michael Taaffe, who received second-team AP All-American recognition this season, is expected to return to Longhorns for a final year, he announced Tuesday evening.
Taaffe concluded the 2024 season with 78 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks and two interceptions. He also forced a fumble and recovered another.

A former substitute who played an important role for the LonghornsTaaffe plans to anchor the Texas secondary in 2025.
Andrew Mukuba, who started alongside Taaffe at safety for most of 2024, has exhausted his college eligibility. The same was true for Thorpe Award-winning corner Jahdae Barron, making Taaffe’s decision to return particularly important.
With Taaffe playing a big role, the Longhorns finished 2024 atop the league in pass defense. Texas allowed just 5.7 yards per pass attempt, which tied the Longhorns with Washington for the best mark in college football.
