Believe it or not, the New York Rangers are officially on a winning streak.
The Rangers defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 2-1 on Saturday night in a complete team effort.
From start to finish, the Rangers played a close and hard-fought game, something we haven’t seen much from this team recently.
After going down 1-0 in the second period, the Rangers responded with a power play goal from Vincent Trocheck.
The power play has been a problem for the Rangers this season, but it has started to come alive as of late.
It was Adam Edström who finally scored the winning goal in the third period.
Up by one goal, the Rangers got some key saves from Igor Shesterkin and didn’t allow the Golden Knights to get many high-quality scoring chances.
From the look of the game, it was clear that the Rangers were playing as one cohesive unit, and that was the most impressive play of the night.
It’s a game the Blueshirts couldn’t have won a few weeks ago, but they’re finally starting to turn the page.
“We’re playing better hockey right now,” Peter Laviolette said. “I’ve said it before in some games that we’re not winning, we’re doing the right things to win games. I think when you do this more consistently, your chances of success increase.
Defensively, the Rangers were rock solid. Ultimately, they played a winning style of hockey and it started defensively.
“As a team defensively, it seems like we’ve been doing a lot better lately,” Ryan Lindgren said. “It’s the key to winning games, so it was good for us.”
Trust is the golden word.
You can gain confidence as quickly as you can lose it, and that’s exactly what happened to the Rangers. Now it’s about keeping that confidence.
“We were looking for this all year,” Laviolette said of the Rangers’ confidence boost. “We were looking to get wins, string together wins and we just didn’t get there. It’s our responsibility, but at the moment, this is where we are…”
The Rangers will be back in action Tuesday night against the Colorado Avalanche.
