NBA fans are about to learn a lot more about Doc Rivers after he begins his new role as a commentator for ESPN.
By calling the the Los Angeles Lakers And Kings of Sacramento match at Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday evening, the former NBA The player and head coach turned analyst shared a ridiculous babysitting story.
With play-by-play broadcaster Dave Pasch, Rivers got the call for the much-anticipated clash between California teams.
Pasch introduced the topic and took it to the former NBA champion.
“It’s the story, perhaps of the decade,” Pasch began as Rivers began to laugh, knowing exactly the story he was about to reveal.
“Who did you hire to be your child’s babysitter?” »
“Well, it was a one-time thing, but when I was in San Antonio, I wanted to go out, and we used Dennis Rodman for one night to babysit Austin – which explains Austin – and some of our kids,” he said. Rivers said.
“I don’t know if I’m the parent of the year or the worst parent!”
Pasch, who has commentated for ESPN since 2003, pressed for more on the subject.
“What made you choose Dennis Rodman out of all these choices?” He asked.
“He actually said, ‘Hey, I can do that, I love babysitting.'” Rivers responded.
“And he did a great job. The house was a mess!”
The rivers and Rodman were teammates in San Antonio for the 1994-95 NBA season.
The point guard spent the final two seasons of his 13-year career with the Spurs.
Pasch concluded the conversation by joking, “You’re probably lucky it was just the house that was messy and the kids were fine.”
Rivers began his new role as color commentator for ESPN this season.
In May, he was fired by the Philadelphia 76ers after spending his last three seasons as coach there.
On ESPN, he will call the NBA Finals with a longtime player Mike Breen And Doris Burke.
