Portland City Council officially approved the rental a professional football team use Fitzpatrick Stadium for their home games.
On Monday evening, the Portland City Council approved the authorization of a stadium use agreement with Portland United LLC (USL Soccer) for the use and occupancy of Fitzpatrick Stadium.
The initial term of the agreement would be five years beginning February 1, 2024, with options for two additional five-year terms.
This allows Portland United to have 25 match dates, with scheduling done in advance to accommodate other users.
The city said Portland United would make improvements to the stadium, including new locker rooms, storage space, a ticketing entrance, lighting, a press box and a new audio and broadcast system.
It would also contribute $200,000 to the cost of building a new artificial turf field.
Portland United would also be responsible for concessions during their matches and would retain all net concession revenue.
The city said it would operate the parking lots and retain all net parking revenue.
The United Soccer League announced in September that Portland would host a USL League One franchise team.
Home games will be played in Portland at Fitzpatrick Stadium and the team will travel across the country.
United Soccer League stakeholders have announced a timetable for kickoff, which will take place in 2025.
