Under the new college football playoff rules, 12 teams qualified for the playoffs. THE first round matches will take place on Friday December 20 and Saturday December 21.
The winner of Ohio State (10-2) and Tennessee (10-2) match on December 21 will advance to face No. 1 Oregon (13-0) in the Rose Bowl.
If the Vols advance to the Rose Bowl, this would be Tennessee’s third appearance in this historic game and first since 1945.

What is the Rose Bowl?
The Rose Bowl is a famous New Year’s Eve bowling game, also called “the granddaddy of them all.”

How has the Rose Bowl changed with the new CFP model?
The Rose Bowl game traditionally hosts the champions of the Big Ten and Pac-12 conferences. But with the new CFP model, this is no longer the case.
The Rose Bowl is fully integrated into the CFP and will feature the playoff quarterfinals in 2024. The 12 teams that make up the CFP are the five highest-ranked conference champions and seven at-large bids. The four highest-ranked conference champions were seeded 1–4 and received a first-round bye, advancing to the quarterfinals.
Also, the Pac-12 has been significantly reduced to a two-team league in 2024. The only teams remaining are Oregon State Beavers and the Washington State Cougars.
