Carlos Alcaraz welcomed the partnership between Novak Djokovic And Andy Murray as “incredible for tennis”.
Djokovic turned to his old rival after a long search for a new coach as he looks to keep pace with the next generation of Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion has given Murray his first full-time coaching role, with the pair set to link up ahead of the January match. Australian Open.
Djokovic, 37, has won three major titles in 2023 but has reached just one final this year, beaten in straight sets by an irresistible Alcaraz at Wimbledon.
The Serb had revenge on his young opponent at Paris 2024 but hopes Murray’s knowledge and experience can help him challenge Spaniard and world number one Sinner.
And Alcaraz believes the partnership could well pay dividends for the veteran.
“It’s like (I’ll play) against both of them,” Alcaraz joked. has Sports World, before adding: “It’s going to be incredible for tennis.”
After victories at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, Alcaraz now owns Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces.
Success at the first grand slam of the year in Melbourne has eluded him so far, with a quarter-final exit last year his best result in the tournament.
He will be one of the favorites when the Australian Open kicks off on Sunday January 12, alongside Sinner and Djokovic.
The ten-time champion will tune up by playing at the Brisbane International, however Murray should not join him at the event.
