Draymond ‘scared’ of calf injury, takes cautious approach to rehab originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Draymond Green is taking no chances with his calf injury.
The Warriors star explained the nature of his injury and his approach to rehabilitation while speaking to Baron Davis on Tuesday’s episode of “The Draymond Green Show.”
“My thing for this season (is) if I’m healthy, I’m on the field,” Green told Davis. “Over the last few games I’ve been beat up a little bit, but I still feel healthy enough to go out on the field and try to help my team. I started getting this tightness in my left calf. In 2022, before I missed these three months, there were matches where (I felt my) left glute (was) very tight. It would relax a bit and then come right back.
“And I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s a symptom because I’ve been playing games,’ and I didn’t know what I was dealing with. So this time, some of the symptoms that I experienced, I am able to navigate it better and know, “Okay, you felt that, maybe you need to slow down.”
Green is currently dealing with a left calf issue that flared during the Warriors’ loss to the Phoenix Suns last Saturday. Given the delicate nature of calf muscle injuries, Green is a little concerned, although he believes resting him now will allow the problem to resolve itself.
“I’ll be 100 percent honest, I’m a little scared,” Green told Davis. “But in saying that, I have confidence in our staff. I’m confident that I’m getting ahead of myself right now because the smart thing to do is to catch it now when I already have these symptoms.
While Golden State started the season strong, the team has lost four games and is reeling from injuries to Green, Steph Curry and De’Anthony Melton.
The franchise must be based on its deep bench to take over on offense and defense with a series of crucial games ahead. With the Warriors in the thick of the Western Conference playoffs, they can’t afford to fall too far behind in the standings heading into the heart of the season.
As long as Green continues his cautious approach to recovering from his injury, he should have no problem returning to the field as soon as possible.
