THE Pittsburgh Penguins“The history of the organization has a plethora of great players, and we decided to go through top Penguins players will wear every jersey number. Today we continue the list by naming the best #70 in Penguins history.
There is only one player in franchise history to wear number 70 for the Penguins, and while this one is a stretch to say the least, he will forever be famous for a particular food that he ate during an important match.
The best and only number 70 in Penguins history is goaltender Louis Domingue.
Domingue has become something of a wonder in Pittsburgh. He only played two regular season games for the Penguins in 2022, but that’s not what he’s known for.
Going into Game 1 of Pittsburgh’s 2022 Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the New York Rangers, the Penguins were already without starting goaltender Tristan Jarry. Substitute Casey DeSmith allowed Pittsburgh to double overtime in a wild game.
However, DeSmith unexpectedly had to leave due to an injury in the second overtime. As a result, the Penguins’ third goaltender, Domingue, had to come into play.
The result? He made 17 saves and led the Penguins to a triple overtime victory. And he may have gotten a little boost from an intermission meal:
Yes, “spicy pork and broccoli” has become such a staple that Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena started selling it during this playoff series because of Domingue.

Even though Domingue and the Penguins fizzled out and lost the series in seven games after squandering a 3–1 series lead – Domingue struggled in the next few games and started every game except the game 7, which Jarry started with a broken foot – “spicy pork and broccoli”, for better or worse, is something that won’t soon be forgotten in Pittsburgh.
In the 2022 playoffsDomingue went 3-3 with a 3.65 goals-against average (GAA) and .898 save percentage (SV%). In 143 games played during his NHL career, he has a GAA of 3.02 and an SV of 0.905.
