Jiyai Shin won the 2024 ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open on Sunday, winning for the second time the event which is played simultaneously on two courses on the Australian sandbelt in Melbourne. Ryggs Johnston won the men’s event Sunday.
Shin shot a final round 70 and finished at 17 under to win by two strokes over Ashleigh Buhai and claim her second Australian Open title. Shin led by seven on Sunday, but Buhai closed with five birdies on his back nine to make things interesting.
This is Shin’s 65th professional victory.
“Now I can breathe,” she said. “I’ve only won one Australian Open trophy, so I’m really excited for the next one, especially on this Kingston Heath golf course.”
Hyojin Yang, a 17-year-old amateur, finished third at seven under. Hannah Green finished tied for fourth after shooting 79 on Sunday.
The Australian Open tournaments feature alternating tee times at two golf courses – Kingston Heath and Victoria Golf Club – over the first two days, with Kingston Heath hosting the final round. For the second year in a row, the prize money was the same for men and women.
