Report: Juan Soto to meet with Dodgers; The Giants could be next originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
THE Los Angeles Dodgers won the Shohei Ohtani draw last offseason. They would now be about to participate in the Juan Soto competition.
THE World Series The Champions are expected to meet with the free agent star outfielder on Tuesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com first reported, citing sources. The meeting comes just weeks after Los Angeles beat Soto and New York Yankees during the Fall Classic.
So, the price of this offseason’s free agent classwas scheduled to sit down with the Yankees on Monday after meetings with the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and the Toronto Blue Jays, Feinsand also reported.
Other teams Soto could face include Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants and the Tampa Bay Rays, by Feinsand.
The Dodgers paid out more than $1 billion in contracts last winter, bringing in Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow and Teoscar Hernández. The majority of the spending consisted of a record $700 million, 10-year contract for Ohtani and a $325 million, 12-year contract for Yamamoto.
And the Dodgers – after recording MLBThe franchise’s best regular-season record en route to the franchise’s first World Series title in a full season since 1988 – are apparently willing to make another massive, long-term financial commitment in order to add Soto to their list of stars.
ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez said Ohtani’s first year with the Dodgers “blew all their financial projections.” THE postponements in the Ohtani agreement could also help the club in terms of flexibility in their pursuit of Soto.
Soto has consistently been one of the best players in the game throughout his seven-year career – and he just turned 26 last month.
In his first season with the Yankees, Soto hit .288/.419/.569 with 41 home runs and 109 RBIs in 157 games. Soto, who has played in at least 150 games over the last five full MLB seasons, also won the fourth All-Star title and fifth Silver Slugger award of his career in 2024.
