Déommodore Lenoir did not hesitate when he heard the news of his lucrative $92 million contract extension over five years with the 49ers.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Lenoir revealed his outburst of emotion after learning the life-changing deal had been made official.
“I was happy. When I heard my agent tell me that the deal was finally done, I burst into tears saying that I had finally been able to change the life of my family, for generations,” said Lenoir declared. “It was just a blessing.”
Coach Kyle Shanahan was also excited about the signing, revealing San Francisco’s intentions to sign the rising star cornerback to a long-term contract for some time now.
“Pumped, something we tried to do in the offseason. We couldn’t do it. They started working on it here a few weeks ago, finishing it yesterday, so excited,” Shanahan said. “I can’t say enough about DMo. He’s exactly what we want as a Niner. His style of play, how good he’s gotten and really how much he loves football and he’s the same man every day. I know we were excited, the guys were pumped, it was huge.”
Lenoir’s teammates wasted no time celebrating his extension, holding a fitting celebration during Wednesday’s practice.
Lenoir, who just turned 25 in October, is likely entering his prime while ascending to true No. 1 cornerback status.
THE fourth-year NFL veteran defended two interceptions and six passes during the 2024 NFL season, proving to be an invaluable part of the 49ers secondary – a role he plans to maintain for years to come.
