From a 0-5 start to the season to being nominated as a finalist for the 2024 National League Manager of the Year award, it was quite a first season for the Dishes‘ Carlos Mendoza.
Patrick Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers and Mike Shildt of the San Diego Padres were named the other two finalists for NL Manager of the Year.
Thanks to Mendoza’s leadership, the Mets turned things around and went from 11 games under .500 to the best record in baseball from June 1 through the end of the regular season (65-40 record). The Mets also went an MLB record 28-16 in one-run games and posted 41 comeback victories during the 2024 season.
New York clinched a Wild Card berth on the final day of the regular season and went on to upset the Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies before falling to the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, in six games in the NLCS.
The last Mets manager to win this award was Buck Showalter in 2022 after leading New York to a 101-61 record.
The winner of the NL Manager of the Year 2024 award will be announced on Tuesday, November 19.
