THE Miami Marlins have their new manager.
The Marlins reached an agreement to hire Clayton McCullough as their next manager on Saturday, according to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN. McCullough will replace Skip Schumaker, who separated from the club at the end of the regular season.

McCullough, who spent the last four seasons on Dave Roberts’ staff in Los Angeles, succeeds Skip Schumaker in Miami.

McCullough was a candidate for Chicago White Sox manager position, who ended up going to Will Venable. Craig Albernaz was considered a favorite to be hired by the Marlins, but the Cleveland Goalies the bench coach withdrew himself from consideration.
McCullough, 44, had served as Los Angeles Dodgers first base coach since 2021. He reportedly spoke to the Marlins during their manager search and as the Dodgers headed to an eighth World Series title.
McCullough interviewed for the Guardians manager position last offseason – a position that ended up going to Stephen Vogt. He also participated in the leadership searches conducted by the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers And New York Mets over the last few offseasons.
After a brief playing career in the minor leagues, McCullough became a manager in the Toronto Blue Jaysorganization before joining the Dodgers as a minor league field coordinator in 2015. Marlins assistant general manager Gabe Kapler worked in Los Angeles from 2014 to 2017 as director of player development and overlapped with McCullough within the organization.
The Marlins have not finished higher than third in the NL East since 2020 and have made the playoffs only twice since winning the World Series in 2003. The team has won 62 games in 2024, his lowest total over a full season of 162 games since 2019. Schumaker led the team for just two seasons and compiled a record of 146-178.
