Arkansas State basketball hit a bump in the road to taking on Alabama coach Nate Avoine and the Crimson Tide.
Former Alabama basketball assistant coach Bryan Hodgson was seen under the hood of the Arkansas State bus Thursday after the belt was torn about two hours from the destination of the team, Tuscaloosa.
According to a report from basketball analyst Jeff Goodman, the Red Wolves will miss Thursday’s practice leading up to Friday’s game at Coleman Coliseumwhich is expected to be announced at 7 p.m. CT.

The Arkansas State bus broke down in Holly Springs on its way to Tuscaloosa for tomorrow’s game against Alabama. Shredded belt, stuck for 2 hours before head coach Bryan Hodgson replaced the belt. Alabama and Arkansas State both enter the 2024-25 season 1-0.
Coach Nate Oats’ team earned a dominant 110-54 victory over UNC-Asheville on Monday to open the season. Meanwhile, Hodgson’s team went to overtime against Akron and earned an 80-75 victory.
“I’m not necessarily looking forward to playing against (former assistants), but I’m looking forward to seeing them,” Oats said during a press briefing Thursday. “I wish him and the other former AU assistants hope they all succeed. But for this game, I hope one of my former assistants takes an L.”
Although Alabama vs. Arkansas State will not be televised nationally, it can be streamed on ESPN+.
