World number 9 in tennis Danielle Collins has postponed her retirement from the sport and will return to the WTA Tour in 2025.

The American announced in January that she would retire at the end of the 2024 season due to a number of health issues, including rheumatoid arthritis And endometriosisand his desire to start a family.

However, Colin said Thursday that while she was “very excited” to end her tennis career and move on to the next chapter, “things didn’t go as planned.”

“In addition to dealing with some ongoing health issues over the past few months, I recently consulted with a handful of specialists to better understand what the best path forward is to achieve my ultimate dream, starting a family,” she says. wrote on Instagram.

“Dealing with endometriosis and fertility is a huge challenge for many women and something I am actively going through, but I have full confidence in the team I work with. This is just going to take longer than I thought.

“The story of DANIMAL has therefore not come to an end. I will be back on tour in 2025. While there are no guarantees in life, I hope to build on my 2024 momentum and continue playing until there is more certainty about my personal fertility journey. The only guarantee for now will be more epic matches.

Collins, 30, has played some of the best tennis of her career since being announced in January following a second round loss to Iga Świątek at the Australian Open.

In consecutive weeks in late March and early April, Collins won the Miami Open – the first WTA 1000 title of her career – and the Charleston Open, climbing back into the world top 10 after falling as low as N °71 in February.

Collins has lost in the first round of all three tournaments she has entered since her quarterfinal loss at Paris Olympic Gamesincluding his home US Open.

After a surprise first-round loss to compatriot Caroline Dolehide at Flushing Meadows, Collins quickly left the field as organizers prepared a farewell ceremony. She then joked that she didn’t want to be like Ben Stiller’s character on “Meet the Parents.” Gaylord ‘Greg’ Focker.

Collins last played at the Guadalajara Open in September, but was named to the U.S. United Cup team starting December 27.
