Mets’ Brandon Nimmo focused on NLCS, but says Subway Series would be ‘dream scenario’

With the Yesankees defeat the Kansas City Royals in ALDS Game 4 Thursday evening, they officially joined the Dishes as the first two teams to clinch their spot in this year’s Championship Series.

This means we are now eight wins away from a Potential Subway series coming together in the Fall Classic for only the second time in baseball history.

While neither team will be looking past their next opponent – both of which are yet to be determined – bringing the crosstown rivalry to the game’s biggest stage is certainly a fun prospect for everyone to consider.

Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo was asked about the potential matchup while speaking to reporters Friday afternoon.

“That would be amazing,” he said. “Certainly, if we get to that point, we would take full advantage of it and it would be a great time to be a part of the city and these two organizations.” But both teams have something to settle first, and it’s something very important.

“We’re going to focus on that and not let our minds drift, but it would be great, there’s no doubt about it. It would be a dream scenario, I would enjoy it to the fullest, and it would be a story you would tell for the rest of your life – but there’s a big obstacle in the way, so we’re focusing on that.

For the Bronx boys, that hurdle will be decided by the winner of Saturday afternoon’s Game 5 between the AL Central champion Cleveland Guardians and the Detroit Tigers.

The Mets, meanwhile, will travel to the West Coast to face the winner of Friday night’s Game 5 between the division rivals San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

While the orange and blue faithful certainly have a lot of opinions on who they’d rather see for the potential seven-game set, Nimmo insists the Mets don’t care either way.

“We like our team against anyone,” he said. “I don’t think it matters who wins, either way it will be a tough challenge and we will play against a good team, but we are confident about where our team is.”
