Christmas came early for Michigan State basketball team.

Before Tuesday evening Detroit Pistons vs. Phoenix Suns exhibition game at Breslin Center, Suns shooting guard Devin Booker has gifted each member of the Spartans roster and coaching staff a pair of special edition Michigan State Spartans Nike Book 1 PE shoes.

The Spartans shared their gift of Booker on X (formerly Twitter), as the Grand Rapids, Mich., native met Tom Izzo and his team before Tuesday night’s exhibition game.

“I got little Sparty here. All green, you know. Shoutout D-Book, man. I went through the clutch for the guys. Us here,” said the redshirt freshman guard from the Michigan State Jeremey Fears Jr. in the video.

Here’s another look at the new Michigan State Spartans Nike Booker 1 PE that the Spartans received on Tuesday:

Booker chose to play college basketball at Kentucky for then-Wildcats coach John Calipari over Izzo at Michigan and Missouri State. He spent the first year of his high school career at Grandville High School in Grandville, Michigan, before transferring to Moss Point in Mississippi for his final three seasons.

He averaged 30.9 points per game for Moss Point as a senior and was named a McDonald’s All-American before heading to Lexington to play for the Wildcats. Booker declared for the NBA, where he was ranked 13th overall by the Phoenix Suns during the 2015 NBA draft, after a season at Kentucky.

Booker is entering his 10th season in the NBA, all with Phoenix. The 6-foot-3 guard helped USA Basketball win gold last summer at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Spartans were projected to finish fifth in the Big Ten Conference this season according to this season’s Big Ten preseason poll. by The Columbus Dispatch and The Indianapolis Star. Michigan State finished 20-15 overall last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament, falling to No. 5 North Carolina.
