NILES — The Sturgis golf team earned its first conference victory of the season Monday.
It was at Orchard Hills Country Club in Niles that the Lady Trojans posted a team score of 179 to beat Otsego (186) and Plainwell (187). All eight teams participated in the jamboree. Otsego remains in first place while we
The Trojans’ Maddy Webb took home the individual medal of the day, shooting a 38 to propel the team into first place.
Sturgis also received strong results from several players. Mia Martinez shot a 46, Ximena Medina shot a personal best 47 and Piper Sterling shot a 48. Mazie Sterling shot a 50 and Gabby Netke added a 63.
Three Rivers finished seventh with a team score of 229.
Ashton Ware and Elizabeth Oestrike were the Cats’ weakest performers, with two 55s. Maggie Gose had a 56 and Delaney Harper a 63. Cassandra Gillette had a 66 and Bella Tippett a 75.
Last week, Sturgis finished third overall at a Pine View-hosted jamboree with a 186. Plainwell won that victory with a round of 176, Otsego was second at 185. Webb also earned medalist honors here, with a round of 40 that day. Piper Sterling’s 43 was key to Sturgis’ ranking in the team score. Martinez added a 51, Medina and Netke both shot 52 and Mazie Sterling shot 53.
