Australia’s Ariarne Titmus won her first gold medal of the Paris Games on Saturday, beating Canada’s Summer McIntosh and the United States’ Katie Ledecky in the 400-metre freestyle final. Today, Titmus has the chance to add a medal to her tally in the 200-metre freestyle.
Titmus, 23, is the reigning Olympic gold medallist in the event. She also holds the world record with a time of 1:52.23, which she set at this year’s Australian trials.
In Canada, the talk is of the Summer Olympics. McIntosh, the 17-year-old swimming sensation, won silver in the 400 freestyle on Saturday, the first medal of her career and Canada’s first in Paris.
Today, McIntosh could win her first gold medal in the 400-metre individual medley. A two-time world champion in the event, McIntosh set a world record at the 2024 Canadian trials.
