The United States has been placed in Group C of the men’s basketball tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics, along with South Sudan and Puerto Rico, along with today’s opponents Serbia.
South Sudan and Puerto Rico faced off earlier today at the Stade Pierre Mauroy in Lille and it was the African nation who came out on top in a historic result.
South Sudan, which only became independent in 2011, is competing in its first Games after qualifying as the best African country at last year’s World Cup.
South Sudan held their nerve after trailing by 19 points at one point against Puerto Rico and dominated the second half with efficient three-point shooting to take the lead in Group C. Team USA will face them on Wednesday.
