Most of the time, the men’s Olympic basketball tournament serves as the crowning achievement for the United States. The American team has won gold in seven of the eight Olympic Games since NBA The players have been cleared to compete and, as expected, will open the 2024 Games in Paris as heavy favorites to win gold again. But don’t expect it to come easily.
The 2024 Olympics will arguably feature the strongest group of teams ever assembled for an international tournament. Host France, the silver medallist at the last two Olympics, is led by veteran Rudy Gobert and newcomer Victor Wembanyama. Canada has the star guard duo of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jamal Murray. Germany is the reigning World Cup champion.
Even South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation, pushed Team USA to the limit in an exhibition match. The Americans haven’t exactly dominated their warm-up games. Steve Kerr may have led Team USA to an undefeated record, but sloppy performances against both teams were a factor in their success. South Sudan And Germany created the feeling that anyone could win this tournament.
There are 12 teams in total participating in the tournament. They are divided into three groups and the four teams in each group will play each other once. The top two teams from each group will advance, along with two wildcard teams. From there, it’s a single-elimination tournament. One bad shooting night, one questionable decision or one bad whistle can send you home.
