Brazilian legend Ronaldinho on Saturday criticized the Selecao squad for the upcoming Copa America, calling them the “worst team”. Ronaldinho also said he would boycott all national team matches.
“It’s a sad moment for those who love Brazilian football. It’s becoming difficult to find the desire to watch the matches. This is perhaps one of the worst teams in recent years, they haven’t respectable leaders, only average players for the majority I have been following football since I was a child, long before I thought of becoming a player, and I have never seen a situation as serious as this. Lack of love. for the jersey, lack of courage and the most important of all: football,” Ronaldinho posted on Instagram.
“I repeat, our performance was one of the worst things I have ever seen. What a pity. I therefore declare my resignation. I will not watch any CONMEBOL Copa America matches, nor celebrate any victories,” he added.
Brazil, coached by Dorival Junior, will begin their Copa America campaign against Costa Rica on June 25 (Tuesday, 6:30 a.m. IST). Paraguay and Colombia are the other teams in Group D.
Ronaldinho, 44, was a member of the Brazilian team that won the World Cup for a record fifth time in 2002. The attacking midfielder scored 33 goals for Brazil in 97 matches. He won two FIFA World Player of the Year awards and a Ballon d’Or.
