Alex de Minaur is one of the players in form heading into the Australian Open and his romance with British number 1 Katie Boulter could be one of the tennis stories of 2024.

De Minaur was recently asked if he was close to proposing to Boulter and if it could happen at the Australian Open this year, with his response suggesting he may not be not far from asking the big question.
After being asked about a possible marriage proposal earlier this month, de Minaur seemed reluctant to broach the subject.
” Damn it. This puts me in an embarrassment here,” de Minaur replied.
“Yeah, that’s not planned yet. I don’t rule it out. For the moment I will try to focus on tennis and then we will think about off-court activities.
Asked if he would propose to Boulter if he won the Australian Open, de Minaur said: “It wouldn’t be a bad way to celebrate, let’s just say that.”
These questions asked by a journalist during a press conference drew criticism for being personal, but de Minaur and Boulter were happy to talk about their love story in public.
“We are on the same page as far as our priorities go, tennis is where we want to be and the rest will follow,” Boulter said last year.
“I couldn’t ask for more, he’s the best support I have.”
De Minaur also explained how Boulter helps him take his game to the next level, as they are in a unique position to understand the emotions they experience on a tennis court.
“I always thought she was a very high quality player, and it was amazing and great to see how she developed,” de Minaur said.
“She has this confidence in herself and what she has been able to accomplish.
“The way she handled the spotlight, the pressures, it quite amazed me. You know, now it’s probably my turn to start learning from her.
“She is doing wonderfully. She showed again this week that she deserves to be where she is, and I think, I honestly think, that this is just the beginning.
“I guess that’s the beauty of the fact that we both play the same sport. We kind of understand each other. We know what to expect, how we can help each other in certain situations.
“Tennis is a very stressful lifestyle, as it is. It’s always great to have a partner you can count on, who can help you here and there.
“It works both ways. I’m here to help her when she needs it. We kind of know what to say in certain situations because we’re in the same world, which is always good.
Alex and Katie will have plenty of flashlights on them as the Australian Open begins and if they both enjoy deep runs in Melbourne, the media attention around their romance will gain momentum .
