A star is born
Philly has a star in the making, and I’m not talking about the reigning NBA MVP. Joel Embiid has been the Sixers’ go-to guy in recent years, but Tyrese Maxey has stepped into the spotlight and shined this season. Everyone knew he was going to have to step up when James Harden left for Los Angeles at the start of the season, but I don’t think many imagined him having this kind of performance in the playoffs. He was the one who carried the Sixers late in the regular season when Joel Embiid missed two months with a torn meniscus, but he and the Sixers struggled without their big man. Now that Philly has its center fielder, Maxey thrived in the series against the Knicks. He’s giving up 32.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 7.2 assists in this series, and if the Sixers want to stay alive, he’ll need to post similar numbers.
