It’s only the second round of the NBA Playoffs, but the table offered a fascinating series, worthy of the big stage.
The game’s best player, Nikola Jokic, leads the second-seeded Nuggets against this year’s playoff star, Anthony Edwards, and the third-seeded Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals.
The series is a rematch of last year’s first round, which saw Denver advance in five games en route to its first NBA title. Jokic nearly averaged a triple-double in this series (26.2 points, 12.4 rebounds, 9.0 assists per game), although Jamal Murray led the Nuggets with 27.2 points per game.
Murray played through calf injury in the first round against the Lakers, but still managed to hit two game-winning shots as Denver went up 4-1.
On the other side, Edwards was the driving force behind Minnesota’s sweep of the Suns, averaging 31 points, 8 rebounds and 6.3 assists while shooting 51.2 percent from the field. The 22-year-old also posted good numbers against Denver in last year’s series, but will his emergence as the face of the league’s next wave of stars help the Wolves turn the corner this time ?
