In a rematch of last year’s Western Conference Finals, the Lakers and Nuggets face off in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
Denver swept Los Angeles last May en route to the NBA Finals. Three of the four games were decided by six points or less.
The reigning champions once again seem ready to cause crises for the Lakers. The Nuggets are fueled by Nikola Jokic, who averaged 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds and 9.0 assists per game during another remarkable regular season. Jokic dominated the Lakers in last year’s playoffs, averaging a triple-double.
The supporting cast, featuring Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr., remains strong. And Murray in particular is well known for his playoff exploits.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, earned the seventh seed after beating the Pelicans, 110-106, in the Play-In on Tuesday night. LeBron James lost a rebound and an assist short of a triple-double, while all five starters scored in double figures. This type of balanced production will be needed against Denver.
The Nuggets won all three regular season games and have now beaten the Lakers in eight straight meetings, including the playoffs.
