Blake Shelton is teaming up with NASCAR this year to bring some sunshine to the sport via NBC’s season-opening montage. The title song from his latest album Bring back the sun has been chosen as NASCAR’s opening theme, and the star will perform it live this Sunday, July 5, before the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
Shelton, who is a fan of auto racing, said he was very excited to have his track selected for the honor.
“I’m so excited that my song, ‘Bringing Back the Sunshine,’ will kick off NBC’s coverage of NASCAR this season,” the singer said in an enthusiastic statement. “Over the years, I’ve met drivers and become friends with them, and before you know it, I have this intertwined relationship with NASCAR – and I love it.”
NBC released a preview of the opening with a montage featuring drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr., Clint Bowyer, Danica Patrick, Jimmie Johnson and Austin Dillon. Watch the video above to get a sneak peek of Shelton’s new gig!
Shelton recently scored his 20th No. 1 hit with “Sangria,” which was also certified gold. He’s hitting the festival circuit this summer, playing stages across the country before returning to NBC. The voice for his ninth season this fall as one of America’s favorite judges. Shelton and his wife Miranda Lambert were named by Forbes as one of the highest-earning celebrity couples, ranking among Taylor Swift and her new boyfriend Calvin Harrisas well as Beyoncé and Jay Z.
