The Spurs are in desperate need of a point guard. They tried to Jérémie Sochan experience to start the season, but it failed miserably. Tre Jones is the only real option on their roster, but the franchise views him as a backup. Expect the Spurs to target their primary ball handler of the present and future with this selection.
Topic started the season so well for Mega Bemax that Crvena Zvezda recalled his loan and gave the teenager a chance to play EuroLeague basketball. It only lasted three games as Topic injured his knee in January and missed two months of action. Still, there was a lot to like about his first tape.
The 6’6 point guard averaged 16.4 points, 6.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 30.8 minutes per game this season. He is one of the best passers and playmakers in this class. Topic loves to attack the rim and has the size to guard multiple positions in the NBA.
There are questions about his shooting, which has been inconsistent over the past four years, but Topic could quickly make a difference. The 18-year-old has a huge ceiling. Teams will want to see him back on the field and healthy before the draft. If Topic returns and plays well, don’t be surprised to hear his name called early on June 26.
