AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn Forward Marissa Arias was named honorable mention to the Most Outstanding Football Team of the Week on Tuesday.
This is the first time in his career that Arias has received this recognition. It’s also the seventh time in as many weeks this season that an Auburn player has been recognized.
The San Antonio, Texas, native played a role in Auburn’s comeback at South Carolina last week, scoring the team’s second goal to cut the deficit to one in the late stages of the contest. Arias controlled a missed clearance at the top of the box and hit a screaming left-footed one-timer through the Gamecocks defense and into the far net.
Arias ranks second on the team in goals (five) and points (12), and all but one of his points have come in the last six contests. She is tied for second in the Southeastern Conference in goals (three) and tied for sixth in points (six) in championship games.
Arias and the No. 22 Tigers (8-3-0, 2-2-0 SEC) remain on course to face Mississippi State (3-4-3, 1-2-1 SEC) on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. CT in Starkville, Mississippi.
