It’s no secret that the majority of WNBA members travel overseas at the end of their season to play overseas and make more money playing ball.
In fact, last year, Angel McCoughtry decided not to participate in the 2017 WNBA season but she has played abroad – where she makes more money. She found the best option for her was to rest during the WNBA and continue playing in another country.
Even though McCoughtry wasn’t paid by her overseas team, Diana Taurasi was on the job. 2015 to sit for the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA and playing strictly in Russia that season.
We don’t hear about NBA players going to play overseas or taking a sabbatical in America, while playing in another country.
For what? Mainly due to the salary they receive compared to their female counterparts who continue to fight not only for their voices to be heard, but also to receive better pay – especially in the state.
Recently, McCoughtry broke his silence and addressed the question of what she would like to see happen when it comes to paying professional female basketball players. However, the conundrum with McCoughtry’s argument, and others who make the same complaint, is that the high salaries NBA players earn come from attendance, merchandise, lucrative television contracts, etc.
The NBA generates about $2.6 billion in annual TV money revenue from Turner, ESPN/ABC — the the entire deal is worth $24 billion.
