Now that many elite NFL players have ended the stigma of “adult protective underwear” with their support of Depend (we recently spoke to Wes Welker, Clay Matthews And DeMarcus Ware on this same subject), a new NFL subject is going around the world: how do players manage when they are in the middle of a match and nature calls at the DEFCON level? According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo!Jered Weaver of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim dealt with this problem while spinning his no-hitter Wednesday night, but it’s a little easier when you have the innings interruption to deal with this which needs to be resolved.
Speaking to ESPN’s Dan LeBatard on Wednesday, Welker confirmed a story told to LeBatard by Zach Thomas of the Miami Dolphins. The All-Pro wide receiver revealed that former New England Patriots teammate Larry Izzo once fixed a No. 2 problem in his own way — and won a game ball for his troubles because he did it without anyone noticing.
“It’s 100 percent true,” Welker said. “And Larry would be so mad at me if I said that didn’t happen, because he’s extremely proud of that whole thing. Of all the special teams tackles and Pro Bowls that he made , I guarantee you that game ball is probably a more valuable item to him than his Super Bowl rings.”
When asked how Izzo managed to get away with it, Welker responded very simply: “Because he’s Izzo! That’s what he does. I’m telling you, that guy is phenomenal! Only time I see Larry is when he comes out of “He’s just phenomenal. “
Welker also talked about the “crazy” toilets in Tom Brady’s house. “First of all, it’s heated. And then it has a wand that goes up and vaporizes you. And then it also has a dryer. What else do you want? It’s like, ‘Tom, Are you home? I need to stop for 15-20 minutes.
Of course, when we spoke to Welker, we couldn’t help but ask if Depend could team up with the NFL to solve this problem. “I joked about it: I wore them before games, because I’m always out there peeing on the sidelines. I might as well put these bad boys on and let them rip.”
Clay Matthews also speculated to us that Nike should incorporate something practical into the new NFL uniforms, but that’s a clothing topic for another time.
