The score of the box Columbus, Ohio. — Auburn Soccer dropped the final game on its non-conference slate, losing 2-0 to Ohio State on Sunday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Auburn held the Buckeyes scoreless for the final 67 minutes of the game, but could not penetrate the goal line and get on the board.
“Really disappointed with our first half, more than the result,” said head coach Karen Hoppa said. “We came out very flat and very slow, and Ohio State is too good a team to do that. I loved our second half though. We fought well. We had some young kids. Like Jess (Osborne ), step up. That kind of grit and fight is what we’re going to need as we head into SEC play.”
Ohio State scored first in 16th minute and again in the 23rd. The Tigers kept them quiet for the rest of the game.
Auburn made eight shots and put five on frame. The elderly Sydney Richards And Maddie Simpsonjunior Carly Thatcher and freshman Olivia Woodson accounted for the Tigers’ scoring opportunities.
First-year student Jessica Osborne made his collegiate debut and played 47 minutes at center back. Junior Haley Duca and freshman Maquena O’Callaghan also saw career-high minutes.
Goalie Maddie Prohaska made three saves during the contest.
Then, a new season begins as the Tigers head to Mississippi State on Friday, September 15 for their SEC opener. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on SECN+.
