The Spurs desperately need a ball handler and playmaker next to Victor Wembanyama. They opened the season with an experience point from Jeremy Sochan, but it fell flat. Gregg Popovich doesn’t believe Tre Jones is their long-term answer, and San Antonio needs to add a successful starting option this summer.
Topic is arguably the best point guard in this draft. He played so well for KK Mega Bemax this season that Red Star recalled his loan. The 18-year-old will now have a chance to play in the EuroLeague and will further cement his status as a top-three draft pick.
The 6’6 point guard is arguably the best passer in this class and one of the best playmakers. The subject plays like a veteran, even though he is a teenager. He has four years of professional experience and could quickly make an impact in the NBA. Topic suffered a knee injury this season, but it did little to dampen his stock in an uncertain class.
Nikola Topic must improve his shooting and continue to flourish to be a starter in the NBA. He’s made just 22 of his 78 3-point attempts this season and has been inconsistent from beyond the arc for years. Playing alongside Victor Wembanyama could bring out the best in Topic, and the Spurs will certainly be interested in the 6’6 guard.
