Kaizer Chiefs head of communications Vina Maphosa says the mood in the camp is very high as he “gets dragged down” by Khama Billiat’s contract issue and urged him to return to the table negotiations.

The Chiefs recently released a statement saying they couldn’t get their hands on Billiat. following the expiration of his contract at the end of June after submitting a new offer for the Zimbabwean.

Amakhosi also said they expected the 32-year-old to be in their pre-season camp despite his contract expiring on June 30.

Maphosa hinted that negotiations were underway, but it became clear that they did not share the same expectations.

“Khama (Billiat) showed up at the start of pre-season, he was there, he did the medical, he did the fitness test, he took part in the light training and just when we were going go to camp,” Maphosa said on Radio2000.

“We obviously expected Khama to come and be part of this pre-season camp. That was the club’s expectations but it seems we didn’t share the same expectations with him.

“I can also reveal that last time he called in sick also at training and he did not attend training but was in the village,” he said.

Maphosa continued and said that as a professional club, they expected the former Mamelodi Sundowns striker to respond to their offer, but indicated that the mood in the camp is so high that ‘They don’t want to get caught up in the problem.

“I have to put that aside, without a contract he’s obviously not obligated (to report to camp), but as a professional team we expected him to respond. The intention was for him to keep,” he said. said.

“We are focusing on the team that is in camp, with new players and the spirit in the camp is very high so that we can be held back in the progress that we are making.

“So we want the player to call the club and sit at the table to conclude the discussions,” he added.

Siya’s team understands that the Chiefs are prepared to abandon negotiations with Billiat, who is seeking a financially rewarding deal in the latter stages of his career.

Soccer Laduma has been led to believe that there is interest in Billiat’s services in North Africathe Middle East and the DStv Premiership and the 32-year-old is currently weighing up his options.

But Amakhosi are ready to live without Billiat, with their latest recruit, Royal AM’s Tebogo Potsane, joining Golden Arrows’ Pule Mmodi, both of whom will compete in a similar position to the one Billiat occupied.
