Pirates release statement on Lorch after court ruling

Orlando Pirates have released a statement on Thembinkosi Lorch after a court ruling on his protracted case was finally handed down.

Yesterday, Lorch appeared in the Randburg Magistrates Court and was sentenced to a straight term of imprisonment of three years, suspended for five years and subject to strict conditions..

He was further fined R100 000, and this was all a result of being initially convicted in June of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after strangling and punching his girlfriend then in 2020.

The Pirates released a statement on the club’s official website and it reads:

“The Orlando Pirates Football Club has taken note of the conclusion of legal proceedings involving our player, Thembinkosi Lorch. In accordance with the rules and commitments of Orlando Pirates, set out in the statement issued by the club at the start of the legal proceedings, the club is beginning its internal process.

“The Orlando Pirates Football Club is at all times aware of its obligations due to the employer-employee relationship it has with the players. The Club also manages the administration of justice in a way to avoid double criminality, in which players would be punished twice for the same offense.

“The above is in line with the club’s values ​​without which the club would not operate wisely. That said, the club has removed Thembinkosi Lorch from all club activities until December 12.
