When Nipper heard that SongCity announced the ten participants chosen for their inaugural INK retreat in November, he just had to find them, one by one. (And Nipper is a great tracker…) Kaylee Boerner resides in Wantagh, New York, on Long Island, which is quite a trip for a terrier. Fortunately, thanks to the wonders of modern technology – and a wonderful dog-email transcriber, I might add – Nipper was still able to get to know Kaylee a little. She is the head of a project called LadyByrd, which instantly makes Nipper’s ears perk up (he loves birds, after all). Kaylee’s voice, with an impressive range, rises over offbeat indie-rock arrangements reminiscent of St. Vincent or Big Thief.
