In a recent press conference, Pep Guardiola definitively stated that his star striker will not participate in the upcoming match against Tottenham. He indicated that “Erling Haaland is still not ready but he is close.” The Spanish manager also shared his views on the 23-year-old’s progress during training sessions. Positively, he noted, “The training camp went well (in Abu Dhabi) and he has been training here for the last few days. It’s not perfect…”

Additionally, updates were given on other important members of the team who have suffered from injuries recently, John Stones, Ederson and Manuel Akanji. The Man City manager has revealed some positive news regarding John Stones. He confidently declared him fit enough to travel for the match against Tottenham.

Equally positive sentiments were echoed about Ederson, seen as “GOOD” according to Guardiola. Unfortunately, this optimism does not extend to Manuel Akanji, whose participation was categorically ruled out by the 53-year-old himself due to injury concerns. This development raises the question of when Erling Haaland and Manuel Akanji will return.

Regarding Haaland, a glimmer of positive news is coming from the training camp located in Abu Dhabi. It has been reported that his workouts went smoothly, a fact now confirmed by Guardiola himself. Projected timelines for his recovery suggest he could return to full fitness before the end of this month, positioning him for a potential match against Burnley on January 31.
