Now we come to the first of the two heavyweight candidates. Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith, along with head coach Mike McDaniel, has the Dolphins offense ranked first by far. 1 unit in the NFL right now.
The Dolphins are averaging over 453 offensive yards per game (the next closest is Detroit with 390) and also lead the league with 33.9 points per game as we are halfway through the season. But it’s not just Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and the passing game. The Dolphins lead the NFL with an average of 5.9 yards per carry on the year, which is an astronomical number.
Miami knows how to run the football, and that’s something the COs have struggled with for a few years now. Inconsistency in running the football won’t help Howell, or whoever the next quarterback is. For this reason, Smith would be a great hire in Washington. Bringing a taste of McDaniel’s offense to the Commanders could be a breath of fresh air for this team.
