2. Can the Red Wings improve defensively?
Detroit’s biggest problem last season was the team’s defense. The Red Wings ranked 24th in goals allowed per game (3.33).
They hope Talbot will help in goal. They added a striker Tyler Motte to help in the bottom six. A big question is how two rookie defenders — Simon Edvinsson And Albert Johansson — will happen. Edvinsson, the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, should play regularly, and Johansson, a second-round pick (No. 60) in 2019, should contribute at some point.
But ultimately it’s going to be up to the coaches and the players, as a group, to figure out how to better possess the puck and better keep it out of the net.
“Obviously we think we can be a better defensive group as well,” the forward said. Patrick Kane “It’s always a key part of winning and making the playoffs, and it depends on everybody, right? Not just the guys that are in that role, but everybody has to play better defensively, so I’m sure we’ll go through that as a team and see how we want to play in those situations.”
